Debt Snowball or Debt Avalanche

Cut the Cords

It is the age old question…probably even older than dinosaurs. In the mad run from money slavery, how should I make my escape? There are a few methods with two of the most popular being the debt snowball and the debt avalanche.

Frankly you can use either one as long as in the end you are out of debt. I personally prefer the snowball method because it is habit forming. It also forces you to abandon your old way of thinking that is keeping you broke. Money isn’t the end goal, freedom is.

Picture this: There is a person who has a race to run but he is on his knees and barely crawling. You can see that he is very weak and he looks drowsy and sluggish as he drags himself along. You can hear him faintly mumbling to himself. He seems coherent, but you can’t make out the words. Out of nearly every part of the back of his body are protruding pulsating cords, some thick and some thin. The cords stretch out behind him far into the distance and out of sight. Curious, you draw closer to hear what he is saying.

It sounds like gibberish. “…leather…windows…heat…” What? You lean in closer until you can finally understand “it has leather seats, that’s why I got the windows tinted. Even though the seats are heated, that function is only good for the winter, in the summer they get too hot. My friends were thinking…” he continues babbling on to nobody in particular about a new car he must have just purchesd. You look around to see if anyone cared more than you but there isn’t anyone nearby. You glance over his shoulder and see a fresh cord coming from his lower backside near the kidney area, just below the ribcage. That must be the car. You move behind him to see more. Above the car cord, over the heart area, is a large older one, about the size of a muscular bicep in thickness. Written on the connecting plate it says “mortgage/30/3.9”

“That’s a pretty good deal.” you think to yourself.
