You Make Enough Money (Explored)

Choose your own situation: I don’t make enough because…

  • The housing market is out of control. I really want to buy a house and save for the future but I can’t, I simply can’t.

  • I was raised in a regular home, in a regular town/city, in a regular time. However, I was never taught much about finance and I made some pretty bad decisions early on.

  • I’m a late bloomer

  • I got a divorced and now I have nothing. Half my check goes to the ex so there is no way for me to ever get ahead.

  • My husband is a liar.

  • My aunt is a thief.

All of these things may be true, but money is not the actual problem.

EXPLAIN YOURSELF, KNAVE! you might be saying.

While the housing market might indeed be out of control, you make enough money to live at home with your parents, or with roommates etc. Even though you made bad decisions in the past, you make enough money to be exactly where you are. You say you’re a late bloomer, your house burned down, and your cousin stole the money you had hidden in the root cellar. None of this changes the fact that you are where you are.

This might sound redundant, but the point is to fully accept where you are at the moment. If what I am saying makes you angry or defensive, it is because you haven’t accepted it. There is a difference between knowing/realizing something and accepting that thing that you know/realize.

The biggest problem that I see in this area is that people live where they want to be instead of where they are. Since they want ___ (fill in the blank) and they don’t have ___, life is never fulfilling and nothing ever changes.

The way that you think is what leads to many of the problems you have, and that is what needs to change.

You can do this.
