You Spend Enough Money (Explored)

This may come as a surprise, but you probably have a spending problem. (Insert pearl clutching emoji).

In the escape from poverty run I heard a statement that punched me right in the solar plexus and stunned me. At the time I was thoroughly entrenched in the habit of excusing myself and giving myself a pass when I heard a man say; “you are not a dog, you don’t need a treat.”

OOH,

MMMM,

AAAH,

Quiet groan…

Ok, you got me there. How do you argue with that? Can you? That statement struck right to the core of the problem. I was infantilizing myself and giving myself treats whenever I did a “good thing,” when that good thing was supposed to be normal. I didn’t give myself a treat when I chewed with my mouth shut, or when I looked both ways before crossing the street. These things were normal for me, so they didn’t deserve a treat. HOWEVER, when I ate healthy for two days in a row, or went to the gym, I most assuredly deserved a treat.

Case and point, there was a popular chicken restaurant across from the gym I went to at one time. One day after not having been to the gym for quite a while, I went and had a nice envigorating workout. Upon leaving the gym I decided to go to the chicken place and got myself some fried hashbrowns (it was breakfast time), a fried chicken sandwich, and a chocolate ice cream mocha drink. Afterall…I deserved it.

🤦‍♂️

Your spending habits are yours and trust me, you can escape. You really can. There is a way out.
